A brief history of wing surfing
Using a hand held wing with foil boards and stand up paddle boards has become increasing popular, but where, when and how did it start?
The first hand held wings were invented by Tom Magruder in the 1980's for wind surfing. They were a rigid sail that rotated freely. Tom was inspired by seagulls who explained that "a bird has the ability, through his own energy to add to the lift of the wind and stay in flight indefinitely." Tom called his invention the Wind Weapon and said that you "get the aerodynamic control of a true wing that pitches and yaws and rolls like a bird or an airplane."
